PT100 3-wire temperature sensor
Description
Pt100 sensors consist of a platinum wire encapsulated with a resistance of 100 ohm at 0°C. The resistance of the PT100 varies depending on its temperature, so if we manage to measure the resistance value we can know what the temperature is at that moment.
PT100 and RTDs in general outperform thermocouples, especially in low temperature applications (-100°C to +200°C). An advantage of the PT100 sensor is that unlike other sensors that degrade over time and give wrong readings, the PT100 opens the circuit and you can know when it is necessary to change it.
