Description
Shield Ethernet allows you to connect the Arduino to the Internet. It is based on the Wiznet W5100 Ethernet chip with IP capabilities for both TCP and UDP. It includes a micro SD card slot, which can be used to store files that are available over the network. It is compatible with the Arduino Uno and the Mega (using the library.
The Arduino Uno uses the digital pins 11, 12 and 13 (SPI) to communicate with this shield. The MEGA uses the 50,51 and 52 pins. On both cards (one and Mega) the pin 10 is used to select the W5100 and the pin 4 for the SD card. As long as you use Ethernet functionalities these pins will not be available. Likewise, take into account that in the Arduino Mega despite the fact that the Pin 53 (SS PIN) is not used to select neither the W5100 nor the card must be configured as an output and otherwise the SPI interface will not work.
Because the W5100 and SD card share the same SPI bus only one can be active at a time. If you are using both peripherals in your program, you should take this into account. If you are not using any of these peripherals, you must disable it. To disable the SD card, set pin 4 to output and type HIGH. To disable the W5100, set pin 10 as an output in HIGH.
The Shield has a standard Ethernet RJ45 connector. The reset button initializes both the Shield and the Arduino.
