2This sensor functions as an Arduino compatible photoelectric barrier encoder or microcontrollers, it is used to measure revolutions per minute (rpm) and the speed of a robot's wheels. It can also be called opto switch. For its operation it has two infrared LEDs, an emitter and a receiver. Every time the signal is interrupted between them, a 1, or HIGH is sent to the exit. It has a resolution of 0.01mm and a measurement frequency of 100kHz, this means a very high definition at high speed. This feature is what orients this device to speed measurements. Obviously we need a microcontroller or Arduino that can read signals so many times per second.
